Boosting Rules are an optional part of Vexture Merchandising that let you decide which products should appear first.
The Boosting Rule editor works the same in Product Showcases, Category Merchandising, and Search Merchandising. In each feature, you first define the products to be ranked:
- A Product Showcase uses one source: an AI Prompt, Search Term, Category, or Collection.
- A Category Merchandising rule uses the selected category.
- A Search Merchandising rule uses the configured search term.
The starting product set determines which products are included. Boosting Rules determine which of those products receive priority, and Sort By determines the order of products with the same boost score.
How Boost Priority Works
Each boost is assigned a letter based on its position in the rule. Boost A has the highest priority, followed by Boost B, Boost C, and the remaining boosts through Z.
You can add up to 26 boosts to one rule. To change their priority, drag the boosts into a different order. Miva updates the letters to match their new positions.
For example, you could create this rule:
- Boost A: On Sale is Yes
- Boost B: Margin is greater than or equal to 10%
- Boost C: Custom Field: Material contains Waterproof
- Boost D: Has Image is Yes
- Sort By: Margin
Miva checks each product against the Boost Filters and shows the letters it matched in the preview.
A product matching Boost A ranks above a product matching only Boost B, Boost C, or Boost D. A product can match several boosts, which increases its overall score. However, a higher-priority boost always outweighs every lower-priority boost combined.
Products that do not match any boost remain in the list and appear after products with higher scores.
After updating the priority, click Apply, then save the Showcase or merchandising rule.
Boost Filters
A Boost Filter is the condition a product must meet to receive a boost.
Boost Filters can identify products that:
- Are currently on sale
- Have a margin of at least 10%
- Were added within the last 31 days
- Belong to a particular Collection
- Have a supported custom-field value
- Include an assigned image
When a product matches a filter, it receives that boost’s priority. Products that do not match remain in the results without receiving the boost.
Build a Boost Filter
Each Boost Filter has up to three parts:
- Choose a product field
Select the product information Miva should evaluate, such as Margin, Price, On Sale, Collection, Days Since Added, or a supported custom field. - Choose how to evaluate it
Select an option such as Equal To, Contains, Greater Than, or Less Than. - Enter or select a value
Add the value the product must match, when required.
Add Another Filter or Add Another Boost
Use Add Boost Filter when multiple conditions should share the same priority.
For example, Boost A could require:
- Margin is greater than or equal to 20%
- Price is greater than or equal to $200
With All selected, a product must meet both conditions to receive Boost A. With Any selected, it only needs to meet one.
Use Add Boost when conditions should have different priorities.
For example:
- Boost A: Price is greater than or equal to $200
- Boost B: Profit is greater than or equal to $50
Boost A has higher priority because it appears first. All filters inside one boost share the same priority. Separate boosts receive their own letters and priority levels.
Sort By
After Miva applies the boosts, Sort By determines the order of products with the same boost score.
Available options can include:
- Display Order
- Newest
- Oldest
- Updated
- Price
- Cost
- Weight
- Margin
- Profit
- Relevance
- Best Sellers
For example, if several products have the same boost score, you could sort them by Margin from highest to lowest. If you add another sort, Miva uses it when products are still tied after the first sort.
Preview Results
After you click Apply, use Preview Results to see how the rule changes product order.
The preview shows:
- The updated product position
- Which boosts each product matched
- Whether Sort By is ordering tied products as expected
Use the preview to check whether a boost is too broad, too narrow, or in the wrong priority position. When the order looks right, click Save.
Copy from Existing
Click Copy from Existing located at the bottom of the Edit Boosting Rule screen to reuse a Boosting Rule you already created.
This is helpful when several Showcases, categories, or search terms need similar boosts and sorting. After copying the rule, you can adjust it before applying and saving.

Global Rules
Search Merchandising and Category Merchandising each include a Global Rule.
- The Global Category Rule is the default for category pages that do not have their own or an inherited category rule.
- The Global Search Rule is the default for storefront searches that do not have a matching search-term rule.
Global Rules use the same boosts, Boost Filters, and Sort By options as other merchandising rules. To configure one, open Category Merchandising or Search Merchandising and click Global Rule.
