Search Merchandising

Search Merchandising gives you more control over which products shoppers see first in storefront search results.

Boosting Rules apply conditions to products that already match a shopper’s search and move qualifying products higher in the results. They do not add or remove products from the result set.

Once you save a rule in Search Merchandising, Miva applies it automatically, so there is no need to add Search Merchandising to a Page Builder component.

Global Search Rule

How Search Merchandising works

You do not need to add Search Merchandising to your storefront or a Page Builder component. Once you save a rule, Miva applies it automatically to storefront search results.

Search Merchandising supports two levels of configuration:

The Global Search Rule is the default rule for storefront searches.

A search-term rule applies to a specific shopper search and takes priority over the Global Search Rule when the search matches the configured term.

For example, you could create a Global Search Rule that prioritizes products that are in stock. This rule would apply to searches that do not have their own search-term rule.

You could then create a search-term rule for lightweight hiking jacket that prioritizes products with a margin equal to or greater than 20%. When a shopper searches for lightweight hiking jacket, Miva applies that search-term rule and moves qualifying products higher in the results. For other searches, Miva continues to use the Global Search Rule.

Configure Search Merchandising Rules

Go to Merchandising Dashboard > Click Add Search Term on either the Dashboard page under Search Merchandising or on the right side of the Search Merchandising tab.

1. Enter the search term you want to merchandise, such as lightweight hiking jacket and Click Continue.

2. Review the products currently returned for that search.

3. Click Add Boosting Rule to configure the boosts, Boost Filters, and sorting option.

4. Click Save.

The saved rule will be used whenever the storefront search matches that configured search term.

For a complete explanation of boosts, Boost Filters, priority order, and sorting, see the Boosting Rules documentation.

Global Search Rule

Search Merchandising includes a Global Search Rule that applies to all storefront searches unless a matching search-term rule exists. To configure it, go to Merchandising > Search Merchandising, click Global Rule, and use the Boosting Rule editor to add boosts, filters, and sorting options.

Set the Global Search Rule to prioritize things like:
  • Higher-margin products
  • Products that are In Stock
  • Products currently on sale
  • A preferred manufacturer or brand
