Gift Certificates

Gift Certificates allow you to issue store credit in a variety of ways. In Miva, you can generate codes directly in the Admin, attach them to existing products, or sell them as standalone products.

Each gift certificate creates a unique code. After it’s redeemed, the value becomes store credit that can be used on future purchases.

Unlike coupons, gift certificates don’t apply a discount at checkout. Instead, they become account credit after redemption. Customers must have a store account to use them.

The Three Ways to Issue Gift Certificates

  • Generate codes manually

  • Attach to a product

  • Sell as a standalone product

Generate Gift Certificate Codes in the Admin

You can manually generate unlimited gift certificate codes directly in the Admin. Once generated, you can distribute the codes however you choose, for example, by email or printed for physical delivery.

For step-by-step instructions, see: [Generate Gift Certificate Codes in the Admin]

Attach a Gift Certificate to an Existing Product

You can configure an existing product to automatically generate a gift certificate when it is purchased. This option is ideal for promotions, incentives, or offering bonus store credit with the purchase of specific items.

When the qualifying product is purchased, Miva automatically generates a gift certificate code. Once redeemed, the value is converted into store credit and applied to the customer’s account.

For setup instructions, see: [Attach a Gift Certificate to a Product]

Sell a Gift Certificate as a Standalone Product

You can create a product specifically for selling gift certificates, such as a fixed-amount gift certificate or a customer-selected value. This option is ideal when you want to sell digital gift certificates directly through your store.

When a customer purchases the gift certificate product, Miva automatically generates a unique gift certificate code and delivers it to the customer. Once redeemed, the value is converted into store credit and applied to the customer’s account.

For step-by-step instructions, see: [Create a Standalone Gift Certificate]

Important

A store account is required to redeem and use a gift certificate. Customers who do not already have an account can create one before redeeming their code or during checkout.
