Price Groups Overview

Price Groups Overview

Price Groups define rules for how discounts and promotions are applied in Miva. They determine who qualifies for the promotion, what the discount applies to, and the conditions under which it’s activated.

Price Groups can be used to configure a variety of discount types, Volume Pricing, Customer Specific Pricing, Shipping Discounts, etc. Each Price Group Type contains four configuration sections, Discount Settings, Basket/Qualifying Restrictions, Price Group Settings, and Exclusions, which together control its logic and behavior.

After selecting a Price Group Type from the dropdown the settings for that Group Type will appear in the box below the Type dropdown.

Price Group Types are defined by four configuration setting sections: Discount Settings, Basket/Qualifying Restrictions, Price Group Settings, and Exclusions. Together, these settings determine when a discount applies, what it affects, and how it behaves within the store.

Each Price Group Type have their own unique settings.

Discount Settings

The Discount Settings section defines the value and type of the discount applied.
Available fields depend on the selected discount type. Common options include:

  • Discount – The amount or percentage to be applied.

  • Maximum Discount Amount – Caps the total discount that can be applied in a single order (optional).

  • Apply To – Select eligible product you want to target.

This section directly controls the discount logic of the Price Group.

Basket/Qualifying Restrictions

The Basket/Qualifying Restrictions section determines when a discount becomes active.
It sets the thresholds and criteria that must be met for the Price Group to apply.

Typical fields include:

  • Restrict to Qualifying Subtotal – Minimum and maximum order subtotal required to trigger the discount.

  • Restrict to Qualifying Quantity – Number of items that must qualify before the discount applies.

  • Restrict to Basket Subtotal / Quantity / Weight – Global basket-level limits that control whether the entire order qualifies.

These restrictions give you precise control over eligibility conditions,

Example: Apply a discount only when the order total exceeds $100 or when a specific quantity of items is added.

Price Group Settings

The Price Group Settings section manages how the discount behaves once active.
It controls how and when the Price Group runs, and whether it’s shown to the customer

Common fields include:

  • Basket Description – The label displayed in the customer’s basket when the discount is applied.

  • Display Discount in Basket – Toggles whether the discount line item appears to the shopper.

  • Apply To All Products Unless Excluded – This connects to the next section where exclusions to Price Groups are created.

  • Priority – Determines the order in which multiple Price Groups are processed.

  • Not Valid Before / Not Valid After – Optional date fields to control when the discount is active.

These options let you fine-tune both the visibility and precedence of each discount rule.

Exclusions

The Exclusions section prevents conflicts between discounts by defining what cannot be combined.
You can restrict how a Price Group interacts with other groups, baskets, or items.

You need at least two Price Groups saved to make exclusions.

Exclusion options include:

  • Allow Combination – Whether this discount can apply alongside others.
  • Exclude for Same Basket – Prevents the discount from applying when another qualifying Price Group affects the same basket.
  • Exclude for Same Item  Blocks overlap on individual products
  • Item Group – Defined product groups.

These rules maintain predictable discount behavior and prevent unintended stacking or over-discounting.

  1. This section will include a table indicating the number of Price Groups applied to each exclusion setting along with a button to Configure Exclusions for the current Price Group.
  2. Click the Configure Exclusions button to expose the Price Groups Exclusions dialog
  3. The dialog includes a batch list, containing built in search features of all price groups in the store.

NOTE: The Price Group Exclusions batch list the ability to update individual Price Group exclusions using In-Line Edit or in bulk using the Bulk Actions options can be done when a Price Group is selected.
