A Volume Pricing Price Group lets you offer different discounts based on how many eligible items a shopper purchases.
You can create multiple quantity levels in a Pricing Table, then choose how Miva counts products toward those levels and how the corresponding discounts are applied.
Create a Volume Pricing Price Group
Navigate to Marketing > Price Groups.
Click Add Price Group.
In the Add Price Group dialog, enter a Name for the Price Group and configure the basic settings.
Type
From the Type drop-down menu, select Volume Pricing.
Eligibility
Select who can be eligible for the Price Group. Available options are:
- Coupon Only — shoppers become eligible through an associated coupon.
- Specific Customers — only selected customer accounts are eligible.
- All Logged-in Customers — any shopper signed in to a customer account is eligible.
- All Shoppers — the Price Group is available to all shoppers, subject to any other restrictions you configure.
For more information, see Eligibility in Price Groups/Coupons.
Enable Not Valid Before and Not Valid After to limit when the Price Group is active. These scheduling settings are optional.
Discount Setting
Grouping: determines which eligible basket items Miva counts together when deciding which Pricing Table entry applies.
Choose from:
- All Eligible Products — combines the quantities of all products eligible for the Price Group when determining the applicable volume-pricing level.
- Same Product — calculates volume pricing separately for each product. Quantities from different products are not combined.
- Same Product Variant — calculates volume pricing separately for each product variant. Different variants of the same product do not combine their quantities.
- Identical Items — evaluates each basket line item separately rather than combining quantities across separate line items. Use this when volume pricing should be based on the quantity of an identical basket item instead of a broader product or variant grouping.
The Identical Items option provides the most specific grouping behavior. It is useful when separate basket line items should qualify for volume pricing independently rather than having their quantities combined.
Pricing Method
The Pricing Method determines how Miva uses the quantities in the Pricing Table. There are two options.
Apply Single Pricing Table Entry Using Total Quantity: Miva determines the total quantity for the applicable Grouping, finds the Pricing Table entry that matches that quantity, and applies that entry to the group.
For example, consider this Pricing Table:
If the applicable quantity is 11, Miva uses the 10-unit entry. The applicable items receive the 10% discount.
This method is useful when reaching a quantity level should cause the same Pricing Table entry to apply to the entire applicable quantity.
Apply Pricing Table Progressively
With progressive pricing, Miva applies Pricing Table entries in stages as the quantity increases.
Using the same example, at a quantity of 15. The first 5 items receive 5%, the next 5 receive 10%, and the remaining 5 receive 15%
Instead of applying one Pricing Table entry to the entire quantity, different portions of the quantity can be priced using different entries.
Progressive Mode
When you select Apply Pricing Table Progressively, the Progressive Mode setting appears.
Progressive Mode determines which items receive the earlier and later Pricing Table entries when a group contains items with different prices.
Higher Priced Items are Priced Using Earlier Pricing Table Entries
Higher-priced items receive the earlier Pricing Table entries first. In a typical table where discounts increase with quantity, this means the later discount levels are applied to lower-priced items.
Lower Priced Items are Priced Using Earlier Pricing Table Entries
Lower-priced items receive the earlier Pricing Table entries first. In a typical table where discounts increase with quantity, this means the later discount levels are applied to higher-priced items.
This setting matters most when the selected Grouping allows differently priced items to be evaluated together.
Pricing Table
Use the Pricing Table to define the quantity levels and discounts for the Price Group.
Each entry contains:
- Quantity — the quantity at which that Pricing Table entry begins to apply.
-
Choose one:
Fixed — subtracts a fixed amount from each item priced using that entry.
Percent — applies the entered percentage discount to each item priced using that entry.
- Amount — the fixed or percentage discount associated with the entry.
Click Add Entry to create additional quantity levels.
Basket/Qualifying Restrictions
Expand Basket/Qualifying Restrictions when the Price Group should only apply within certain basket or qualifying ranges.
The available restrictions are:
- Qualifying Subtotal
- Qualifying Quantity
- Qualifying Weight
- Basket Subtotal
- Basket Quantity
- Basket Weight
Enter a From and To value to define the permitted range. A To value of 0 means there is no upper limit.
Price Group Settings
The Price Group Settings section contains additional controls for the Price Group.
Basket Description: Enter a description to associate with the Price Group when applicable in the basket.
Display Discount in Basket: Enable this option when you want the discount displayed to the shopper in the basket.
Apply To All Products Unless Excluded: Enable this option when the Price Group should apply broadly to products except those you explicitly exclude.
For more information about settings shared by Price Groups, see Price Groups Overview.
Exclusions
Use Exclusions to control how the Volume Pricing Price Group interacts with other Price Groups.
The Exclusions summary includes:
- Allow Combination
- Exclude For Same Basket
- Exclude For Same Item
- Exclude For Same Item Group
Click Configure Exclusions to configure the appropriate exclusion behavior.
For more information, see Price Group Exclusions.
Add the Price Group
After you have configured the Price Group, click Add. The new Volume Pricing Price Group appears under Marketing > Price Groups.
If Apply To All Products Unless Excluded is not enabled, configure the products or variants that should participate in the Price Group using the appropriate Price Group assignments for those products.
How Volume Pricing Works
There are three settings to keep in mind when configuring Volume Pricing:
Grouping determines which item quantities Miva counts together.
Pricing Method determines whether a single Pricing Table entry is applied based on the total quantity or whether entries are applied progressively.
Pricing Table defines the quantity thresholds and the Fixed or Percent discount associated with each level.
Together, these settings determine how a shopper qualifies for each volume-pricing level and how Miva applies the resulting discount.
