Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is Google’s current analytics platform for measuring activity across websites and apps. GA4 uses an event-based data model, allowing interactions such as page views, clicks, and purchases to be measured as events and used to better understand how customers interact with a site.
Use Google Analytics 4 for ongoing analytics and reporting. Standard Universal Analytics properties stopped processing new data on July 1, 2023.
Note: Starting with the Miva 10.07 update, the Shadows framework supports Google Analytics 4 through Google Tag Manager (GTM).
GA4 Migration and Implementation Resources
Miva provides several resources to help merchants implement Google Analytics 4 or migrate an existing Universal Analytics configuration:
- Google Analytics 4 migration and implementation guide
- Migration supplement document
- GitHub Resource
- Miva Google Analytics 4 Integration video
Important: Cloudflare Google Tag Gateway
If you are using Cloudflare Google Tag Gateway, do not leave Miva’s GTM-head-tag JavaScript Resource enabled at the same time. When both are enabled, the GTM head-tag script can be loaded twice.
To disable the Miva resource:
- In the Miva admin, go to User Interface > Resources.
- Select the JavaScript Resources tab.
- Locate the GTM-head-tag resource.
- Disable the resource.
This change is only necessary when Google Tag Gateway is being handled through Cloudflare. If you are not using Cloudflare Google Tag Gateway, leave your existing GTM configuration in place.
