Norton Anti-Virus

If you use Norton Anti-Virus, certain versions of it will often see an email they don't like being downloaded from your mail server with us to your computer. When these random versions of Norton Anti-Virus (NAV) see these particular emails, not even virus-infected messages on many occasions, NAV will just terminate your connection to your mail server. Your email software will likely report it as a timeout or connection termination when it was actually NAV that closed the connection for you without asking.

To see if this is the problem, you can temporarily disable Norton Anti-Virus by following these procedures on the Symantec website:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001082921552806?Open&src=&docid=2001091807593406&nsf=nav.nsf&view=pfdocs&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv

1 Exit any email programs that are running, such as Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express.

2 Start Norton AntiVirus.

- If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program.

3 Click Options.

- If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.

4 In the left pane, click Email.

5 In the right pane, uncheck Scan incoming Email and Scan outgoing Email.

6 Click OK.

7 If you use Norton AntiVirus 2006/2005, then in the Protection Alert dialog box, on the drop-down menu, click Permanently, and then click OK.

8 Exit Norton AntiVirus.
