Editing files within the hosting control panel

  1. Log into your control panel account and click on the domain name where the file to be edited is located.

  2. On the following screen, click a button labeled "File Manager" over on the right; it will look similar to the following:

  3. Navigate within the file manager to the directory where you would like to edit a file by clicking on the directory name.   In most cases you will want to click on the directory named "httpdocs" as that is where all public files are, such as your web pages.

  4. Once you find the appropriate file, there will possibly be one or two special icons displayed on the same line with the file over on the right side of the screen.   If the file is one that the server believes can be edited safely, you will see what looks like a pad and pencil which is for making plain text edits of a file.   If the file is a web page, you may also see an icon to the right of the text edit button that looks similar to a micro-sized web page; you can use that to edit the web page using a web editor with limited capabilities.
