When synchronizing Orders, why do I get the following error: "Quickbooks error: The name '[customer name]' of the list element is already in use" ?

When synchronizing Orders from Miva Merchant, QuickBooks takes the customer name from the order and creates a new customer record for them in QuickBooks.

Miva Synchro does a query of existing customers in QuickBooks for that customer name and, if it already exists, it ties that order with that existing customer. If the customer does not exist, QuickBooks will create a new customer record for that customer and tie the order to them.

If you have a customer record in QuickBooks that is inactive, though, Miva Synchro is unable to see that customer record and will try to have QuickBooks create a new customer record for them. However, QuickBooks will not let this happen since the customer record already exists, even though it is inactive.

This is why the error message comes up. Miva Synchro is trying to add a customer record to QuickBooks, but QuickBooks won't let it because it thinks it already exists. Since the existing customer record is inactive, though, Miva Synchro doesn't know it already exists.

To resolve this issue, you can either remove the customer record from QuickBooks so a new one will be created or you can make the existing customer record active again in QuickBooks.
