How do I make my Miva Merchant online store secure?

Miva Merchant uses the server's standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) in order to provide a secure shopping cart. A Secure Certificate and be purchased online from any vendor and installed on the server by your host provider. Sometimes, the host provider will supply the secure certificate, free of charge, as part of your e-Commerce hosting package.

Once the SSL has been enabled on your website by your host provider, there is a place in Miva Merchant where you can enter this information. Miva Merchant will use this information to secure the parts of the storefront that will be used to pass shoppers' personal information as well as the administrative interface. To find that area, follow the steps below:
1. Log into your administration interface.
2. Click the link "Domain Settings".
3. In the page displayed, click "Site Configuration".
4. The first eight text fields contain the different URL's and file paths that Miva Merchant will use.
5. Fields 2, 3, 6 & 8 are where the secure server information will be entered:
o Field 2 - Secure URL to Miva Merchant: This is the full, secure URL to the Miva Merchant storefront. This is generally similar to:

https://www.YOURDOMAIN.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv(c)? (YOURDOMAIN = your actual domain) or...

https://YOURSECUREURL/Merchant2/merchant.mv(c)? (YOURSECUREURL = the secure URL to your website, provided by your host)

Field 3 - Secure URL to Administration: This is the full, secure URL to the Miva Merchant administration interface. This is similar to the "Secure URL to Miva Merchant" looking like:

https://www.YOURDOMAIN.com/Merchant2/admin.mv(c)? (YOURDOMAIN = your actual domain) or...

https://YOURSECUREURL/Merchant2/admin.mv(c)? (YOURSECUREURL = the secure URL to your website, provided by your host)

Field 6 - Secure Base URL to Graphics: This is the Secure URL to the Miva Merchant graphics directory. It usually points to a "/Merchant2/" subdirectory of the secure server. It is usually either of the following URL's:

https://www.YOURDOMAIN.com/Merchant2/ (YOURDOMAIN = your actual domain) or...

https://YOURSECUREURL/Merchant2/ (YOURSECUREURL = the secure URL to your website, provided by your host)

Field 8 - Secure Root Directory for Modules: This is the subdirectory of the secure server in which Miva Merchant can access all of its program files. Usually, it is one of the following:

/Merchant2/ or...

/SITEDIRECTORY/Merchant2/ (Often, when using a shared certificate, your website will be stored in a subdirectory of the secure server. SITEDIRECTORY = the site subdirectory provided by your host.


6. Once these fields are populated with the correct information, click Update.
7. Test your storefront. The following screens should display securely:

"Sign In"
"Account"
"Buy 1 Now"
"Checkout"

There may be special settings for your site, with your host provider. If the information above does not secure your Miva Merchant properly, contact your host provider in order to get the correct information.
