Creating New Categories
There are several ways to create new categories.
In the Catalog Section
To create a new Category from the Catalog section, click the Catalog header on the left side of the page, then click the Categories tab.

From there, click the Add Category button in the top right corner.
From the Edit Product Page
You can also create a new Category while in the Edit Product page for a specific product. To do so, click the Categories tab in the header. On the page that opens, you can assign the product to an existing category by clicking the Assign slider, or you can click the Add Category button in the top right corner.

In the Details section you will enter:

- Category Code : The Category Code is how you will uniquely identify the category.
- Category Name : The Category Name is what is displayed in your online store.
- Parent Category : This is optional, but you can enter a Parent Category in this field. Doing so means the category you coded and named above, will be a child category to the parent category you enter. For example, if you previously created a category called “Hats” you could then create a child category for “Men’s Hats.”
- Alternate Display Page : By default, the content and appearance of all category pages in your store are controlled by the CTGY page in the admin interface. However, you can create additional display pages and use a different one for each category. For example, if you sell clothing and DVDs, you might want the clothing category pages to have one format, while the DVD category pages had a different format.
- Active : Check the box next to Active to have the category appear in your online store. You can leave this box unchecked if you want to create the category but not have it display in your store.

The Category Title section is optional. It is used only if you want to have a graphic at the top of your category page. You will enter the server file path in the text box for the image you want to use. Or you can click the Upload button to upload an image from your local machine to the server.
The Category Tree section is also optional. It is used only if you want to have a image/graphic in the category tree instead of text. As above, you can enter the server file path in the box for the image you want to use, or upload an image from your local machine to the server.
The Header & Footer section is also optional. You can use it to add any content you desire, including text, images, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, etc. to the header or footer of the category page.
After filling out the required and desired optional fields, click the Add button in the upper right corner.
Working with Existing Categories
Editing existing categories works in much the same way.
To edit a category, click the Categories tab, then click the name of the category you wish to edit.

The page that opens displays the same information as seen above when creating a new category, but also includes tabs for Child Categories, Products, SEO, URIs and Facet Rules. Additional information on all of those tabs is available in other documents within this section.
You can edit the Details section, the Category Title section, the Category Tree section and the Header & Footer section. When finished, click the Update button in the upper right corner.
