Digital Downloads
Digital Downloads are products customers can purchase – like PDFs, images, music, video files and other digital products – from your website which they can then download direct to their computer or smart device.
The main differences between a digital product and a physical product like a hat or t-shirt are:
- When a customer buys a digital product, they receive a URL to use to download the product, rather than a physical item.
- Usually you offer digital products with free shipping.
- You have to store your digital products on a server like a CDN (Content Delivery Network) server.
- Digital products are automatically marked as shipped as soon as the customer completes the checkout process.
Warning
You will want to disable any kind of offline payment methods your store may already accept, like checks. Because a link to the product is sent to the customer immediately following a purchase, if a customer doesn’t follow through on sending a check, or entered fraudulent check information, you won’t get paid even though the product is already in the customer’s hands.
