Shipping Method Rules
The Shipping Method Rules tab displays all the shipping methods that are enabled for your store. Clicking on a method allows you to set various options for that method.
Shipping Method Rules Configuration
Each shipping module has its own set of Shipping Method Rules. To configure the Shipping Method Rules, click the method you want to edit from the batch list (Settings>Shipping Settings>Shipping Method Rules tab). Fields in bold are Required.
Settings to Configure
Priority: This sets the order that the various shipping methods will appear in, in the "Ship Via" drop down menu in the Shipping/Payment Selection screen. Priority can be set using any positive number, but shipping methods with a higher number will appear higher on the list. Every shipping method in your store defaults to a value of 0.
Rate Adjustment: This setting is optional. but it allows you to adjust the shipping cost after an amount is returned from the carrier's estimating software, and before the customer sees the rate. The options are:
None: The customer is shown the rate set by the carrier.
Fixed: This option allows you to enter a dollar amount in the adjacent field. The rate that comes back from the carrier will be reduced or increased by the amount you enter.
Percent: This options allows you to enter a percentage in the adjacent field. The rate that comes back from the carrier will be reduced or increased by the percentage you enter.
Restrictions: There are six types of shipping restrictions available:
Restrict to Order Subtotal
Restrict to Item Quantity
Restrict to Total Weight
Geographic Restrictions
Country Restrictions
Restriction by Zip Code
Each of these restrictions allow you to control when a particular shipping method will, or will not, appear in the "Ship Via" drop down list. This allows you to tweak your shipping methods.
Exclusions: This is where you configure exclusions for this shipping method.
Exclude This Method When Shipping to a P.O. Box: When a customer enters a P.O. Box, and this is clicked, the Miva admin will not make this shipping method available to the customer.
Exclude This Method Unless Permitted by Products: This allows you to exclude a shipping method on a global level, but allow it for certain products.
Allow/Excludes/Excluded By: This drop down allows you to deliberately remove a shipping method based on the presence of another. For example, if you want only one type of UPS air method to be presented at one time, you can set it to exclude other UPS air methods.
Allow: Do not set any exclusions.
Excludes: If the current shipping method is available, do not allow the specified shipping method to be offered.
Excluded By: If another shipping method is available, the current shipping method will not be offered.
