Managing Customers from Orders

When customers make purchases in a Miva Merchant store, orders are typically linked to a customer account. However, in certain cases, you may encounter an order that is not associated with any Miva customer account:

  • A guest checkout or a purchase made by someone who does not have an account in your Miva store.

  • An order that originated from an external marketplace (e.g., eBay or Amazon) and was imported into Miva.

Even when an order is not linked to a Miva customer account, customer information such as name and address still appears in the Orders tab and on the Edit Orders screen. You can also search for orders by a customer’s name (e.g., “Hans Kensen”) even if that individual does not have a Miva account.

Why Associate All Orders with Miva Customer Accounts?

The primary benefit of linking orders to customer accounts is the consolidated view of order history. If every order is attached to an account, you can easily open the corresponding customer record and view all past orders in one place. This setup can improve customer service efficiency, help maintain accurate records, and provide immediate insight into a customer’s purchase history.

Link an Order to an Existing Miva Customer Account

Click Order Processing>Orders, and then select the order you want to work with.

On the Edit Order screen, click the Assign button.

Use the Customer Lookup tool to find the customer you want to associate the order with.

You may be prompted to recalculate discounts associated with the order based on the new customer record. Click yes to apply any updated discounts or tax adjustments to the order.

Link an Order to a New Miva Customer Account

Click Order Processing>Orders, and then select the order you want to work with.

On the Edit Order screen, click the Assign button.

In the Customer Lookup tool, click the Create Customer button.

In the box that opens, enter the required information. You can also enter shipping and billing addresses if needed.

When finished, click Create.
